YOUR INTERNSHIP/FELLOWSHIP
At the Red Line office, you will become part of a team and learn from experienced professionals who excel in a variety of fields, including, but not limited to, transportation, planning, community outreach and public relations.
Your internship/fellowship with the Red Line is non-paying.
Your compensation will be exposure to various aspects of the transportation and planning field, which will include learning how the Red Line project is carried from conception to completion.
Your internship/fellowship will include, but not be limited to:
Learning why Baltimore needs the Red Line, which communities will be directly impacted, and the stages required to bring the project to fruition.
Sitting in on planning sessions with the people making it happen.
Helping coordinate community outreach events such as house parties, professional happy hours, and other day and evening events.
Staffing information tables at ethnic and community festivals (i.e. Artscape, AFRAM, etc.).
Assisting in creating and implementing strategies to involve young people in the Red Line process.
Canvassing Red Line neighborhoods and communities to discuss how the Red Line will rejuvenate their area.
EXPECTED OUTCOMES
We expect that the intern/fellow will gain:
A full understanding of the Red Line and how it will impact neighborhoods economically and socially.
Skills in transportation, planning and community outreach.
Community organizing skills at the grassroots level.
Experience working closely with leadership from various professions.
REQUIREMENTS
Available to work for ten consecutive weeks at our office.
A minimum of 8 hours of work commitment per week.
Must be a college junior, senior or graduate student at a U.S. college or university.
Must be at least 18 years old.
Must demonstrate excellence in writing and speaking.
Must be able to meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
Must be able to function as an organized and motivated self starter who can work with a team as well as independently.
Must have good interpersonal and communication skills.
Must have a pleasant disposition.
Must be punctual.
INTERNSHIP AVAILABILITY
Unpaid internships/fellowships are available with the Red Line throughout the year.
